Kalimat subjunctive adalah kalimat angan-angan yang digunakan untuk menyatakan harapan atau keadaan yang sebenarnya tidak terjadi.

Kata yang sering digunakan adalah : wish (berharap), as if (seolah-olah), if only (seandainya saja)

Contoh

1. Subjunctive Wish

·         It doesn’t rain

I wish it rained

·         You did not come to the party

We wish you had come to the party

·         I returned the books to the library late

I wish I had not returned the books to the library late

2. Subjunctive As if

·         It is not winter

The old lady dresses as if it were winter

·         They did not meet a ghost

They ran as quickly as possible as if they had met a ghost

·         They are not polices

They interviewed as if they were polices

3. Subjunctive If only

·         You did not meet my brother

If only you had met my brother

·         Nickita Willy is not my girl friend

If only Nickita Willy were my girl friend

·         She is not my mother

If only she were my mother
